National Day of Catalonia
On 11 September Catalonians celebrate their National Day, during which they commemorate the fall of Barcelona into the hands of the Bourbon troops during the War of Spanish Succession in 1714. Concerts, demonstrations, parades and celebrations take place across the city, with each house proudly displaying the red and yellow stripes of the Catalonian flag from their balconies. In the Parque de la Ciudadela, organisations and political parties make floral offerings to the monuments of Rafael Casanova and Josep Moragues.
