Norma by Vincenzo Bellini
Dust down your old evening gown and make your way to the Gran Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona for a performance of Norma (1831) by Vincenzo Bellini, one of the composer's greatest operas.
Norma, the pivotal figure in the plot, is the daughter of Oroveso, the Druids' high priest, and a priestess herself, with great influence over her people and the power to decide between peace or war. She is secretly married to the Roman proconsul Pollione, with whom she has had two children, and for this reason strives to contain the Druids' urge to revolt. But when Pollione falls in love with the young priestess Adalgisa, Norma is furious and even contemplates killing her children out of revenge.
